The reporting process should be accessible to all participants.

This may be through your sports club or association website, our website or directly through law enforcement and/or a child protection agency.

Steps for making a safeguarding report

Step 1

If the child is at risk of immediate harm, call Police on 000 immediately.

Step 2

If you have reasonable grounds to suspect a child may be at risk of harm and it involves possible criminal conduct (e.g. physical or sexual assault or grooming):

Step 3

If you have cause for concern over a child’s physical safety, welfare or emotional wellbeing, report it to the appropriate person within your club or sport.

This may be the Integrity Manager, Complaints Manager or a designated safety officer, such as a Child Safe Officer.

Step 4

Reports about child safeguarding or discrimination can be made through our reporting form.

You can choose to provide information to us anonymously.

However, this may limit our ability to respond and the actions we can take.

Why it's important to report

Your sport should actively encourage participants to report inappropriate behaviour.

This helps to:

  • keep children and young people safe
  • identify problems that may exist
  • identify areas of improvement
  • build trust with stakeholders.
