    What is it?

Metenolone is a synthetic long-acting anabolic androgenic steroid. It is a derivative of dihydrotestosterone.

Metenolone was originally developed in the early 1960s to treat muscle-wasting conditions and anemia, currently not approved for therapeutic uses in Australia.

It is currently listed under appendix D of the poison standard.

    Possession without authority is illegal.

    How does it work?

Metenolone works by binding to the androgen receptors in the body and stimulates protein synthesis to promote muscle growth.

    Uses

Anabolic Androgenic Steroids such as Metenolone and its metabolites increase muscle growth and lean body mass.

    Adverse Health Effects and Risk

Anabolic agents pose many threats to an athlete’s health.

    Some side effects may include:

    • Increased blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which can lead to heart disease
    • Liver disease
    • Infertility can also result from the use of these agents, as it can suppress the body's natural production of testosterone.

What if an athlete has been prescribed Metenolone for a medical condition?

A Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) would not be granted for the use of metenolone.

Please see link for more information regarding Therapeutic Use Exemptions.
