Sport Integrity Australia's (SIA) Gifts and Benefits Policy sets out how gifts, benefits and hospitality offered to, or provided by, SIA employees and others covered by the policy are managed. 

The policy supports transparent and ethical decision-making and helps maintain public confidence in the administration of Commonwealth public resources.

    What is a gift or benefit?

    A gift or benefit can include:

    • Gifts, merchandise or memorabilia
    • Hospitality, such as meals, travel or accommodation
    • Tickets to sporting, cultural or entertainment events
    • Discounts, memberships or preferential treatment
    • Services, favours or other advantages provided at no cost or at a reduced cost.

    Principles

    When managing gifts and benefits, SIA is guided by the following principles:

    • Integrity - We act in a manner that maintains public trust and confidence and avoid situations that may create actual, perceived or potential conflicts of interest
    • Impartiality - Our decisions are made in the public interest and are not influenced by personal gain or external interests
    • Accountability - We are transparent about gifts and benefits received and maintain appropriate records and reporting arrangements
    • Risk-based approach - We assess gifts, benefits and hospitality to ensure integrity risks are identified and managed appropriately.

    How gifts and benefits are managed

    SIA employees and others covered by the policy are expected to:

    • Decline gifts, benefits or hospitality that could influence, or be perceived to influence official decisions, create a conflict of interest, or damage SIA’s reputation
    • Declare all gifts and benefits, regardless of value and whether accepted or declined
    • Act with integrity, consistent with APS Values and Code of Conduct.

    In line with Australian Public Service Commission guidance, SIA applies a nominal acceptance threshold of AUD$100 (excluding GST). Offers exceeding this threshold are subject to additional scrutiny, approval and reporting requirements to support transparency and accountability. 

    Gifts and Benefits register

    As part of SIA’s commitment to transparency and accountability, we mantain a Gifts and Benefits Register and publish reportable benefits accepted by the Agency Head, valued at over A$100.00 (excluding GST) on a quarterly basis.

    Where no reportable gifts or benefits have been accepted during a reporting period, a NIL return is published.
