National Integrity Framework
The National Integrity Framework outlines how people should behave in sport.
The National Integrity Framework (the Framework) is a guide for how to deal with sport integrity matters. It ensures a safe, fair and healthy sporting environment for everyone.
About the Framework
Sport is vulnerable to many threats. The best way to protect everyone is to be prepared and ready to act. But not all sports are equipped to deal with complex threats. That’s why the Framework exists – to help protect the integrity of Australian sport.
The Framework creates a consistent approach for sports to:
- protect their members
- keep their sport safe and fair
- deal with integrity threats and manage complaints
- hold people who do the wrong thing accountable.
The Framework is a suite of policies designed to target areas in most need of protection. These include the:
- Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
- Competition Manipulation and Sports Wagering Policy
- Member Protection Policy
- Improper Use of Drugs and Medicine Policy
- Complaints, Disputes and Discipline Policy.
The Framework policies also outline what types of behaviour are unacceptable in sport. We call unacceptable behaviours ‘Prohibited Conduct’.
Organisations signing up to the Framework must adopt the full suite of policy templates as a package.
You can view our decision tree to find out if your organisation meets the Integrity policy offerings eligibility criteria.
Benefits of the Framework
Adopting the best practice Framework policies means a sport has taken an important step in creating a safe and fair environment for its participants.
Adopting the Framework also means the sport will have access to our independent complaints handling process for matters about:
- safeguarding children and young people
- discrimination based on a protected characteristic.
Sporting organisations signed up to the Framework
We work with eligible organisations to help them adopt and embed the Framework in their sports. These primarily include the following types of organisations recognised by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC):
- National Sporting Organisations (NSOs)
- National Sporting Organisations for people with Disability (NSODs).
More than 90 sporting organisations have adopted the Framework.

Integrity Policy Offerings
We have other integrity policy offerings that can help sporting organisations deal with integrity matters.

Resources
We have resources to help sporting organisations and participants learn about the Framework. We also have guides to help sports manage matters under the Framework when it falls outside of our role.
