Sport Integrity Australia acknowledges that AusCycling has imposed a three-year period of Ineligibility on athlete Tomasin Clark for several Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs).

Ms Clark returned an Adverse Analytical Finding from an Out-of-Competition doping control test on 29 January 2024.

Ms Clark’s sample was analysed at the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, part of the National Measurement Institute, and the presence of Enobosarm (Ostarine) and Di-hydroxy LGD-4033 a metabolite of LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) were detected.

It was determined that on and or before 29 January 2024, Ms Clark used a Prohibited Substance/s namely Enobosarm (Ostarine) and/or LGD-4033 (Ligandrol). It was also determined that from 23 November 2021 to on and/or around 31 August 2023, Ms Clark possessed a Prohibited Substance, namely Enobosarm (Ostarine).

The substances Enobosarm (Ostarine) and LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) are classified as Class S1.2 (Other Anabolic Agents) substances under the World Anti-Doping Code — International Standard — Prohibited List 2024. Enobosarm (Ostarine) and LGD-4033 (Ligandrol) are classified as a Non-Specified Substances and are prohibited at all times. Enobosarm (Ostarine) is also prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Code — International Standard —Prohibited List 2021, the World Anti-Doping Code — International Standard — Prohibited List 2022 and the World Anti-Doping Code — International Standard — Prohibited List 2023.

Under Article 10.8.1 of the Australian National Anti-Doping Policy 2021 a one-year reduction in the period of Ineligibility may be applied to an athlete’s period of Ineligibility for certain ADRVs based on early admission and acceptance of sanction. In accordance with this provision, AusCycling has imposed a three-year period of Ineligibility on Ms Clark commencing on 29 January 2024.

Ms Clark is ineligible to participate in any sports that have adopted a World Anti-Doping Code compliant anti-doping policy until 29 January 2027. She is also not permitted to compete in a non-signatory professional league, or event organised by a non-signatory International or National level event organisation.

Additional information on the Prohibited Substances

Both LGD-4033, and Ostarine (Enobosarm) are Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) that are not approved for human use or consumption in Australia. SARMs pose serious health concerns, including increased risk of heart attack, stroke and life-threatening liver toxicity.

SARMs are claimed to be substances that induce muscle (and bone) growth without the side effects associated with steroid use. However, information on the safety of SARMs is scarce due to a lack of medium and long-term clinical trials.

Anabolic agents pose many threats to an athlete’s health and some side effects may include an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol levels which can lead to heart disease. Liver disease and infertility can also result from the use of these agents.

The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) classifies all SARMs, as a Schedule 4 drug – a prescription-only medicine or animal remedy. The possession of these SARMs without appropriate authority, is illegal.
