The World Anti-Doping Code (Code) is the core document upon which the global anti-doping program in sport is based.

The Code harmonises anti-doping policies, rules and regulations within sport organisations and among public authorities around the world. It works in conjunction with eight International Standards which aim to foster consistency among Anti-Doping Organisations in various areas.

The Code was first adopted in 2003 and took effect in 2004. It has undergone subsequent review processes by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) which resulted in the 2009, 2015 and 2021 Codes and International Standards.

    Stakeholder engagement

The 2027 Code and International Standards Update Process provides stakeholders with the opportunity to identify areas requiring change.

WADA is especially interested in feedback based on experiences of practical implementation, as it is essential the Code and International Standards are fit for purpose in the promotion of clean sport.

Sport Integrity Australia will work with the sporting community to ensure all stakeholders are informed of the process and are offered the opportunity to provide feedback on key issues important to Australian sport.

    Response to the Concept Papers

In the initial feedback phase, which closed 22 December 2023, stakeholders were invited to comment on specific areas selected by the WADA management and the Drafting Teams.

    Submitting feedback

The initial Stakeholder Engagement Phase (December 2023) has concluded. We appreciate the feedback provided during the phase and thank everyone for their valuable contributions.

We are now entering the subsequent series of phases, concluding April 2025. The next phase, the First Drafting Phase (January – April 2024), will see the different Drafting Teams reviewing and incorporating stakeholder feedback.

The Stakeholder Consultation Phase will then commence May 2024 through to October 2024, allowing stakeholders to provide input on the initial drafts of the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards.

Involvement and feedback during the next phase will play a pivotal role in shaping the updated Code and International Standards. We look forward to stakeholder contributions to Sport Integrity Australia’s response and will reach out closer to May 2024.
