2027 Code and International Standards
Stakeholder consultation process.
The World Anti-Doping Code (Code) is the core document upon which the global anti-doping program in sport is based.
The Code harmonises anti-doping policies, rules and regulations within sport organisations and among public authorities around the world. It works in conjunction with eight International Standards which aim to foster consistency among Anti-Doping Organisations in various areas.
The Code was first adopted in 2003 and took effect in 2004. It has undergone subsequent review processes by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) which resulted in the 2009, 2015 and 2021 Codes and International Standards.
Update process for 2027
In September 2023, WADA launched the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards Update Process. This will be a two-year process and will involve several phases of stakeholder engagement and consultation.

Final versions of the Code and International Standards will be presented for consideration and approval at the sixth World Conference on Doping in Sport in November 2025.
The 2027 Code and International Standards will then come into force on 1 January 2027.

To take account of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, this consultation period shall occur over an extended period, from May to October 2024. Stakeholders are required to have their feedback submitted to WADA by 11 October.
During this phase of ‘Stakeholder Engagement’, you are invited to provide feedback on specific areas that have been initially identified by WADA management and the Drafting Teams.

Stakeholders have the opportunity to offer feedback and comments on other areas which they consider require review or updating.
Feedback can be submitted either directly to WADA via WADAConnect (see below) or to SIA to assist in preparing Sport Integrity Australia’s response.
To provide Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) with enough time to collate and integrate feedback, stakeholder responses to be considered for inclusion in SIA’s response to the first drafts of the 2027 Code and International Standards, must be provided to SIA by: Friday, 20 September 2024
To provide direct feedback to WADA, for potential inclusion in the second drafting of the 2027 Code and International Standards, stakeholders must submit their feedback to WADAConnect by: Friday, 11 October 2024

Submitting feedback
To submit to SIA - Next steps
Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) will be working closely with the sporting community to ensure all stakeholders are informed of the process and are consulted and given the opportunity to collaborate on key issues important to Australian sport.
As previously we encourage you to individually submit any feedback to WADA directly where you have strong views as well as provide this information to us. Wherever possible we will be aiming to strengthen our response by presenting a consensus view.
To submit feedback directly to WADAConnect
Stakeholders are invited to provide their feedback via WADAConnect, the Agency’s online consultation platform. For more information related to WADAConnect, please refer to the user guide.
In the interest of transparency, and because this is a public consultation, WADA will publish all comments received on its website at the end of the Stakeholder Engagement Phase. Stakeholder credentials, such as username, organisation, and organisation type, will be posted along with the comments unless WADA is otherwise notified by email at the address: connect@wada-ama.org.
WADA has stated that while the drafting teams will carefully consider and review all comments, it cannot be guaranteed that they will individually address different stakeholders’ comments or that a given suggestion will be included in amended and updated versions of the Code and International Standards.
If you have any questions, please contact: code@wada-ama.org.
