Rugby league athlete receives sanction

  • Doping Violation Update

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) today acknowledged the decision of the NSW Rugby League to impose a four year ban on athlete Brendan Tarrant for refusal or failure to submit to a sample collection.

On 2 June 2016, Mr Tarrant was selected and refused in-competition testing at Goddard Park, NSW. As a result, Mr Tarrant breached the sport’s Anti-Doping Policy (ADP) by refusing or failing to submit to a sample collection on 2 June 2016, in contravention of Rule 19 of the ADP.

Mr Tarrant did not respond to the Notice of ADRV or file an application for a hearing before the Anti-Doping Tribunal. Accordingly, the NSW Rugby League imposed a four‑year ban commencing on 1 November 2017.

Mr Tarrant is eligible to return to competition on 1 November 2021 (backdated by a period of 12 months for substantial delays in the matter).
